3/19/2024 0 Comments 2012 journey custom sub box![]() I did make a few modifications along the way though. I knew this before building but didn't mind too much as I am not of the taller species. The box will hit the seat before maxing out. I think from start to finish it took about 9 hours including clean up. next time I will gladly pay the money to have it built. I got a quote for about $250 for a custom box, I spent about $100 for materials. Never having a ported box, I am quite amazed. ![]() I definitely got the volume I was seeking at the slight cost of sound quality. I couldn't get the sub to bottom out, where as with the sealed setups, it would distort relatively quickly on some songs. Gains were set right, but I had to turn the sub volume on my head unit and my bass knob(inline attenuator) way way down. 3in pvc port just filed down a little to add a little flare at both ends. My carpeting sucks, I used an entire can of 3m 90 spray glue - expensive but works well. I added in a brace (three screws in middle of box) and used Tnuts and hex bolts for the sub. ![]() The channel was built to fit over the child seat anchors. So I had to rip that off which was a pain because I was using both 18ga 1.5in nails and screws. Right after I took this picture below I realized that I had put the bottom piece on wrong. I looked for a cheap prefab box that would fit, but could not find one.īox modeled around Infinity, 1.5 cubes tuned to 30hz. 3,4,5 could not go loud - I loved how they all sounded but wanted a little louder. All were terrible with rap, rnb, all were great with rock. Cheap Amazon truck box (atrend sealed 10) + Rockford P2ģ,4,5 all sounded great, the HAT sounded phenomenal. I'm looking forward to this weeks progress, try and knock out some solid work and have it running by the end of the week, we'll see though.2. I could even flip it and tuck it by the back seat if it got all that bad. If my trunk starts flexing, I'll start with the dynomat, but I do like your suggestion of flipping the box if it's really needed. It was recommended by a friend of mine who does high end stereos and I really like that it senses the stereo and adjusts the sound accordingly. ![]() Have the JL audio wiring pack, I'm normally not a package deal guy, but it had everything I need and I like that I'm running all JL equipment and accessories in the end. You got it right, I'm running direct for the best power and cleanest run, simplest too. Are you going to run power and ground directly from the battery and tap one of the rear speakers? Any other components like a cleansweep?ītw, if the trunk starts flexing I guess you can always turn it on it's side (largest MDF piece on the floor).just a suggestion. Thanks for the compliment! I'll be sure to post in here as I get farther. I know there may be gaps in these pictures, all that will be taken care of, still have a lot of ends to button up, but I wanted to share my progress! I wanted to go all out for the Merc brand I think it's coming out pretty well, all original and my first box in a trunk, and also my most custom box. ![]() I've got about 3.5 hours worth of work into the box so far. I set them in there and started thinking:Īnd an idea of where the W7 will sit and fire from: I pulled my 10W7 and JL 500.1 amp out of my truck and think it'll be a mean combo for the trunk of my C. This isn't my first time building a box, but it's my first with this kind of complexity and I've never fiberglassed before. Everything is being made from 3/4" MDF and I'm going to fiberglass it all and get it sprayed once I'm finished. I've seen a bunch of stereo threads recently and thought I'd show you guys the project I just started tonight. ![]()
